Captain's News

This is an old time-lapse video of me painting that I posted in the Art Forum a good bit ago. Although the version I submitted in the forum wasn't of this quality and the sound wasn't synced properly. I never made a newspost about it because the higher quality version I put on youtube (that had working sound) was forcibly muted due to the fact I used copyrighted music in it.

At some point they must've started letting people use copyrighted music because it's no longer muted!

It's not exactly one of my favorite paintings but it's a chance to see how I paint. Only difference between now and then is I don't like to use markers anymore, I prefer brushes.

If you've seen this before go ahead and just ignore me :P

With the help of Nae I finally got this old animation I've had sitting on my computer uploaded onto NG. It was made on 2 or 3 sheets of paper with a ton of charcoal and a kneaded eraser. I did this a year or so ago, and it was a lot of fun to work on. I'm hoping I can save up to get a lightbox (or make one) so I can start doing traditional animation again.

One day :P

In the meantime check out Charcoalmation and show me some love :D

Small, kind of lame animation

Did you know I've managed to get myself over 300 dollars in debt? Because I didn't, until a few days ago that is. It's been fun scrambling for cash, friend loaned me some money and I got some cash from a painting I sold. So I've been a little stressed over that recently.

*Update* No longer in the red, but I am still interested in maybe trying to sell some art.

Which brings up my next question! If I were to paint something and slap it on eBay would anyone actually throw some money at me to help out my situation? Not talking too pricey, just like some small little paintings for around 20 bucks.

What do you think?

The power cord for my mac died last night, it no longer will charge my battery. So I'm depending on the kindness of a friend to let me use his to charge my laptop up when he's not using his. So I might be a little MIA until a replacement shows up, which could take a couple of days.

Try not to miss me too much.

NEW FUGGIN POWER CORD BITCHES.....smells so good

hopefully I won't break this one

I watch a lot of movies, and recently I thought it would be cool to start listing the movies I watch and what I thought of them. So here are the movies I've watched this week, and how I rate them and whether or not I recommend watching it. I'll try and keep it as spoiler free as possible.

*Update* Decided instead of keep making new news posts, I'll just keep updating this one and it'll be one super list!

The Substitute 2/5

This flick was so fucking weird, and made very little sense to boot. It's a Danish sci-fi/horror film about a middle school class that gets a substitute teacher who obviously is not what she seems. It was an okay film, but it was really hard to figure out what the hell was going on.

I would recommend this movie on the fact that it's so weird, but don't watch it by yourself. It's one of those movies that you have to be with a group of friends to really enjoy.

City of Violence 3/5

Good Korean kung-fu movie about a group of brothers/friends avenging one of their owns death. There's a few pretty awesome fight scenes. Story was pretty predictable and slow paced like most kung-fu films, but the fight scenes made up for it.

If you're into Kung-Fu films definitely check this one out.

While She was Out 2/5

Pretty typical thriller movie. Suburban housewife witnesses murder, murders chase her around, she becomes a killer in the face of danger.

I'd pass on this one

Sleep Dealer 4/5

Really interesting sci-fi film that takes place in the not too distant future in Mexico. The premise is that in the future people can hook their nervous systems up to a network, and control robots that are in other parts of the world. For instance the main character is in Mexico, but is using a robot to help build a skyscraper in LA. Probably one of the better independent sci-fi films I've seen in awhile, the pacing is a little slow but it's an interesting premise.

Pick it up if you get the chance.

Dreamcatcher 3/5

I remember reading the book a long time ago, but never got around to watching the movie. I remembered some parts from the book, but not much. Made me want to go back and reread it. The movie is very very long, but the pacing is good and the story is interesting so it keeps your attention. Wish I remembered more about the book so I could comment on whether or not it held true at all.

I thought it was good, but it's very long. If you don't mind sitting through long movies than it's a good watch.

Big Man Japan 2/5

HOLEY SHIT WHAT A FUCKING WEIRD MOVIE. It's been a long time since I've been so confused about what the hell I had just watched, the Japanese are fuggin weird. This movies Big Man Japan, who has protected Japan from monsters for decades. This movie has some of the weirdest monsters, and by far the weirdest ending to a movie I've ever seen. The last 10 minutes of the movie alone are worth renting it just to see. The downside is the actually story to this movie is very boring and slow as dirt.

Definitely get some friends together and watch this movie, but skip everything except the monster battles, they're the only parts worth watching.

Surveillance 3/5

Pretty decent thriller. Takes place after a series of murders on a strip of road, and recounts the events through the questioning of 3 witnesses by 2 FBI agents. All in all a decent thriller, wasn't anything ground breaking or special. I guessed what the twist was about 15 minutes before they revealed it, which took me longer than most thrillers I've seen. So I give it points for that.

If there's nothing better to rent and you're just bored I'd recommend this movie. It was pretty good, but not edge of your seat good.

Laid To Rest 2/5

Not a bad horror film, lots of gore and murder. Basic premise of the movie is there's a guy running around with a chrome skull mask glued to his face murdering everything in sight. That's pretty much the gist of it.

If you're in the mood for a decent slasher film this is a good pick up.

The Haunted World of El SuperBeasto 2/5

Animated film based off of the comic book series created by Rob Zombie. I really dug the art style, very much like Katzenjammers art. Lots of tits and violence in this one, so definitely not for the kiddies. It reminded me a lot of Heavy Metal, only with more nudity and less 80s metal. Kind of a weird movie, definitely not for everybody.

If you're into cartoons and crude humor than you might like this movie, but like I said it won't be for everyone.

The Thing 4/5

Had a free movie rental so figured I'd rewatch an old favorite of mine, and it's still in my opinion one of the greatest monster movies of all time. It's a long movie but the story is interesting and does a decent job of keeping your attention between the gory bits. And the gory bits are exceptionally gory. Even with how far movies have advanced with special effects, I don't think there are many movies that are as creatively grotesque as this one. Some of my favorite death sequences are in this film, and The Thing is easily one of my favorite monsters.

It's an older movie so chances are most of you have seen this already, but if you haven't try and pick it up when you get the chance.

Deathrace 2000 3/5

Remember that movie that just came out starring Jason Stathom about inmates who are given weapons of mass destruction in the form of cars and have at each other? This is the hokey 70s film that it was based off of. And when I say hokey, I mean giant switchblade and tommyguns on the front of gangster themed MachinegunJoe's car. The blood is basically red paint thrown onto people, and the dialogue is pretty bad. But all in all it was really entertaining, the fact that it's so hokey is what makes it a fun movie to watch.

I'd recommend watching this, it's funny to see this movie in retrospect to seeing the action-packed manfest that Deathrace was.

My Bloody Valentine 3d 2/5

Meh, only redeeming quality about this film was that it was kind of funny to watch in 3d with a group of friends. The plot didn't make a whole hell of a lot of sense, and even then was pretty boring. The gore was okay, but nothing spectacular. I pretty mediocre horror film that was entertaining because of it's gimmick, don't even bother seeing it if you can't do the 3d.

Rent it if you and a group of friends are bored, but only if 3d glasses are available.

Grace 2/5

This movie let me down a little. It's about a woman who's child dies before she gives birth, but decides to go along with the birthing process anyway. After the child is born the mother is mentally unstable, and tries to breast feed the baby. All of a sudden the baby is alive again, but as the mother soon discovers it won't be easy to feed the baby. Plot showed some progress, but didn't really go anywhere. I was very disappointed in in the lack of zombie baby. Movie ended up being a little boring.

You can pass on this one.

End of the Line 4/5

Actually was much better than I thought it would be. It's largely about a large religious cult starts killing everyone they can who isn't a member, claiming that they are "saving" them and that the apocalypse was upon us. Mostly takes place in subway tunnels underneath of a city that never is named. The religious aspect of the movie was a little interesting, and the story kept up a decent pace. The real reason I really liked this movie was the ending, it was a very good twist ending that made the movie worthwhile.

A well made horror film with a good ending, rent it if you get the chance.
